When I met Ganga

I was aware about Ganga previously as I am much into literature and reading is my primary hobby at the same time when I’d socialize including my best friend’s mother Bharti aunty, a lot of sayings about this divine river made me curious to know and experience her personally. When I shared my curiosity with my best friend she said, It’s a must visit place for me. I am a pilgrim traveller- I mean I am mostly attracted to pilgrim places and my additional hobby being photography go hand in hand.

I always wanted to meet the divine Ganga but there was something whispering that there’s a decided time when you will get a chance to meet her! And this was it! this was the time when divine Ganga called me. The day I met her, The day I took the darshan, the aarti and the snaan (Bath)

The blog is specifically about my experience of the amazing beauty of Devprayag.

It is the sacred event of merging two visible heavenly rivers, Alaknanda and Bhagirathi to form holy Ganga. The river has its origin in the Western Himalayan Ranges in the state of Uttarakhand and is the biggest river in the Indian subcontinent in terms of water flow.

I’ll be introducing you with the Sangam of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. Bhagirathi tends to be silent, calm and serene whereas Alaknanda has a wild nature flow. But, when these two incompatible rivers meet they don’t disturb each other but combine together to move forward.

To reach Devprayag we have to travel through the village and mind you, this distance must be covered while walking. I face some health issues which limit my capacity to walk. I thought it would be a challenge for me to reach out to Devprayag. But, the major miracle happened here. I didn’t face any of such circumstances. And the ambience was worth all the efforts we took. The wonderful energy won my heart. I was amazed with the beauty of THE GANGA and I am lack of words while explaining that feeling.

We took Darshan of the holy river and the holy bath and proceeded further towards my next destination.

While returning I wasn’t just returning from the bath but with the experience of cold water, being touched to the soul, the place

is surrounded by bountiful nature and allows you to completely immerse yourself in the deep positivity this place radiates. The divine feeling which is hard, rather impossible to be expressed in words.

I met Ganga in Haridwar, Devprayag and Hrishikesh has been worshipped ever since the ancient ages. It has also found its mention in several holy Hindu books which further proves that this river plays an incredibly important role in our beliefs and culture. Also there’s a mythology about releasing one’s ancestors from the journey of after death.

Devotees make offerings, perform rituals and take bath in the holy river since they it will give relief from the sufferings and sins of life. A holy bath in this river facilitates Moksha (liberation from the cycle of life and death). It is worshipped as the Goddess Ganga in Hinduism and it is offered beautiful aarti in the morning and evening.

The speciality of this aarti is, it unites people and the amazing absence is created with the sound of claps and mesmerising prayer and the wonder aura is been created while considering every moment there.

I took bath in Devprayag, aarti in Hrishikesh and Haridwar (Har ki pauri) and in this spiritual journey of mine, I felt the relief in my soul, and this feeling is something which truly can’t be sentenced and just felt. We just don’t feel like leaving the edge of Ganga but just staying and feeling the flow. This is my definition of happiness - peaceful, clean and softness which I experienced in the aarti after the holy bath.

I wish to be a part of this supreme patina over and over again.
